BELLA ITALIA!

Venice, Cinque Terre & Florence | April 2027

I have been running photography workshops in Italy for many years and it never gets old. There is something about the light, the history and the variety of locations that just keeps giving photographically. This April 2027 workshop will take us through three of the north's most rewarding locations — Venice, Cinque Terre and Florence — over ten days. April is a great time to be there. The light is good, the weather is cooperative and the locations are far more accessible than they are in the busy summer months.

Venice is a place I never get tired of shooting and I love introducing photographers to it for the first time. We will cover the iconic spots but more importantly I will show you how to slow down, really look, and find the images that most people walk right past. Working with light on water, reflections and the rhythm of the city are all things we will focus on together.

Cinque Terre gives us a completely different experience — coastal villages, dramatic hillside views and a wonderful mix of landscape and street photography. We will work the early morning and late light and take advantage of the elevated trails between the villages which are iconic and some of my favorite shots. It is one of those places that consistently surprises people with how much there is to photograph.

Florence rounds out the trip beautifully. By the time we arrive you will already have a week of shooting some beautiful images behind you and the locations in Florence are pretty special. The city itself is endlessly photogenic and a great place to pull everything together before we wrap up the workshop.

Dates: April 27th - May 6th, 2027

The workshop will be 10 days long, and people can possibly arrive a day early on Monday, April 26th so that we can start at a good time on Tuesday, April 27th. A water taxi can take you to San Marco Plaza which is a short walk from our hotel.

We will be at a ton of different locations from sunrise to sunset and beyond throughout the workshop and looking for great photo ops everywhere. Northern Italy is one of my favorite locations on the planet and we will be having a blast every day!

Shooting high and low

Although Venice is flat and on the water, the Cinque Terre and Florence both have some iconic elevated locations that are pretty priceless to shoot from. I have shot from these spots many, many times and know just when and where to be at the right place & right time.

We will shoot handheld but also a lot from tripods in each city and also after dark whenever we can. These places are absolutely spectacular after the lights go down and it is mesmerizing for photography.

Our hotel will be the Bar Harbor Motel and their prices are definitely sweet as they give me a great group rate! This is also where we will be using their meeting room space for our meetings.

You can call them early spring of 2025 for your reservation. I will keep everyone informed when they can book their rooms for this workshop!

In this workshop we will cover:

• How to scout out the best light & compositions

• Previsualizing in black & white

• Creating camera blur during exposure

• Finding great locations for your images

• How to shoot panoramas, HDR and multiple exposures

• Understanding PhotoPills in the field

• Mastering your camera gear

• How to improve your travel photography

• Scouting and planning with your cell phone

Workshop Time

The workshop begins around 2pm on April 27, 2027 and ends on Thursday, May 6th, 2027. This will allow people ample time to return home. Some of you may need to book a room at the hotel in Venice a night before the workshop starts on the night of April 26th. I am working on having them hold extra rooms for this.

Getting There

The main airport serving Venice is Marco Polo Airport (VCE), located on the mainland about 8 kilometers from the city. The two options to get to San Marco Plaza are Water Taxi and Water Bus.

Florence is served by Florence Peretola Airport (FLR), and is located just a few kilometers from the city center. An easy taxi ride to and from the airport also.

Cost:

The cost for the workshop is $5,550 per person and includes lodging in some stunning places in all three cities. Also included are the trains to the Cinque Terre from Venice and from the Cinque Terre to Florence. The boat from Venice to the town of Burano is also included. Not included are meals along with local transportation getting around in each city.

The single supplement to have your own room is $900.
